District administrators presented the Spring 2024 New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) results for juniors and the ACCESS for ELLs progress measures for English-language learners at the July 25 meeting. The assessments measure proficiency in ELA and mathematics (NJGPA) and K–12 English language proficiency (ACCESS).
Dr. Nadler told the board that NJGPA is administered in March and that students who do not pass have the opportunity to retake the test in October; alternative graduation pathways are available for students who remain unsuccessful on retakes. When Board Member Lori Hoffman asked how students are placed into Advanced Placement classes, Dr. Nadler said placement is primarily based on teacher recommendations but that students may request access to AP courses and should not be denied if they ask to enroll.
Superintendent Dr. Alex Anemone prefaced the presentation and noted the district compiles assessment reports twice a year (July and August) and will deliver additional data in the next reporting cycle.
