The Ridgefield Board of Education approved a grouped consent agenda at its July 25 work session, adopting finance items, contracts, grant acceptances, dozens of personnel actions and first readings of multiple policy updates in a single roll-call vote. The motion, made by Mrs. Claudia Narvaez and seconded by Mr. Michael Jacobs, passed 6–0 with one member absent.
The consent package included review and acceptance of finance reports and large disbursements: a July 25 bill run of $2,264,495.55, June 2024 payroll totaling $2,797,635.46 and June health-benefits charges of $475,693.09. The board approved budget transfers for June 2024 totaling $430,932.62 and received certifications required under N.J.A.C. 6:23 from Business Administrator Kelvin Hiciano.
Also approved were contracts and grant-related items: acceptance of an Advanced Placement African American Studies grant award for $12,305, submission of the Perkins Secondary Consolidated grant application for 2024–25, an AED maintenance contract covering July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025, and acceptance of Extraordinary Aid awarded by the New Jersey Department of Education for the 2023–24 school year.
Student services approvals included multiple out-of-district placements required by individualized education programs (one notable contract was for Legacy Treatment Services — Mary A. Dobbins School at $77,231.70 for SY 2024–25) and authorization of class trips for the upcoming school year.
Among personnel items the board approved numerous hires, transfers, resignations and extra-service stipends across the district (examples in the agenda include appointments of elementary and secondary teachers, staff for the Summer PD Institute and before/after-care rosters). The board also approved a district appointment naming Jenine Murray Treasurer of School Monies at an annual rate of $6,000 effective July 1, 2024.
The board approved an operations item establishing a cooperative baseball program with the Palisades Park Board of Education under NJSIAA rules, and it authorized the district Virtual/Remote Instruction Plan for 2024–25 and disposal or sale of surplus technology devices.
A residency hearing held in closed session preceded a formal vote to remove Student No. 293272 from district schools for failing to meet domicile requirements under state law; the resolution states the removal will be effective 21 days from the board vote.
The meeting also recorded affirmations of superintendent decisions in multiple HIB investigations and the first readings of several revised policies, including curriculum content, attendance and emergency/crisis procedures. The board adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
