The Middleville Village Council appointed three people to the Downtown Development Authority and asked the DDA and the ordinance/planning committees to review the village sign ordinance.
Council moved and approved the appointment of Trevor Degrroot to an unexpired term ending Feb. 13, 2026; Stephanie McDonald to an unexpired term ending Feb. 13, 2027; and Tim Denon to an unexpired term ending Feb. 13, 2028. Each appointment was moved, supported and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the council revisited a longstanding ban in the sign ordinance on feather flags and similar banners. Council members said feather flags are useful for community events and local businesses (farmers market, churches, car lots), but also raised concerns about aesthetics, enforcement and safety at high‑traffic corners. Robert Bishop summarized the tension by saying he did not want to be the "bad guy" having to enforce an unpopular rule for churches and small events. Council members agreed it would be appropriate to ask the DDA and the ordinance committee to draft recommendations that could include time limits, size limits and restrictions related to sight lines.
Next steps: the appointments take effect immediately; staff will refer the sign-ordinance questions to the DDA and ordinance/planning committee for recommended language and enforcement guidance.
