Hardyville proclaims June 4 Self-Help Day and recognizes Building Safety Month

Hardyville — On May 21 the Hardyville City Council unanimously endorsed two proclamations recognizing local nonprofit services and national code-safety observances.

The council read and approved a proclamation declaring June 4, 2026 as Self-Help Day in recognition of Self-Help’s programs in the Low Country, including English-as-a-second-language classes, workforce readiness and a planned education and resource center. Courtney, representing Self-Help during the meeting, told the council the organization will officially open on June 4 at 10:00 a.m. at 12362 Speedway Boulevard.

Mayor Harry Williams presented the proclamation and invited council to join staff for photos at the opening event. The council endorsed the proclamation by voice vote.

The council also proclaimed May 2026 as Building Safety Month. Mayor Williams read the proclamation recognizing the role of building and fire-prevention professionals and the International Code Council’s annual theme, and council voted to endorse that proclamation by voice vote.

Why it matters: The Self-Help proclamation highlights a new local resource for education and workforce development at a time the council and staff described rising demand for services in Hardyville. The building-safety proclamation reaffirms local commitment to code enforcement and resilience in a fast-growing jurisdiction.

Next steps
