At its May 12 meeting the Woodstown Borough Council received updates on several local road projects and decided not to submit an application for the 2027 New Jersey Municipal Aid grant this year.
Engineer Erik Biermann told council that the Rose Drive project has been submitted to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for review, the Bertha & Guernsey preconstruction meeting has taken place with construction set to start the week after Memorial Day, and Borton Drive Phase II remains in the design phase. Biermann recommended applying for the 2027 NJ Municipal Aid grant program previously discussed at earlier meetings.
Councilwoman Heather Bobbitt expressed concern about applying for the grant given the borough’s current financial situation, calling it 'irresponsible' in light of uncertainty about future financial needs. After general discussion the council agreed to take a year off from applying for the grant program.
Public Works Supervisor James Farro said the public works yard parking lot where an emergency repair was made is to be paved in the coming weeks, and he intends to interview candidates next week for a public works laborer position. Borough Clerk Patricia Bohren reported on conversations with the Elmer clerk regarding a Shared Services Agreement, and, citing aged equipment, lack of manpower and no equipment storage in Elmer, the council determined entering the agreement is not feasible at this time.
