Residents press Winfield committee to reopen commercial‑vehicle ordinance; clerk says introduction must wait until August

Several Winfield residents pressed the Township Committee on July 15 for clarity about how to change a municipal ordinance that they say affects commercial‑vehicle parking.

Brenda Makowski asked about the process and next steps to get an ordinance changed. Mayor Byrne said the petition — "200 plus people," he said — signals community interest and that the committee can discuss the proposal further. "Now that there are 200 plus people, town of 1500 residents. Represent your interests, shows there is an interest from the community. Now that we see there is interest, we can discuss further," Mayor Byrne said.

Clerk Melanie Slowik told residents that any ordinance introduction would need to take place at the committee's next meeting in August. When resident Debra Weiss asked how the commercial‑vehicle ordinance had been changed and how many signatures were collected, Commissioner Koomer and Mayor Byrne both said they were unsure when the amendment occurred. An attendee said the ordinance had been amended in February 2021; Chief Mazzarella noted that public utilities had been allowed to park on the street. Clerk Slowik said no petition letters or signatures had been brought to the township office for the committee to review that evening.
