Rockaway Borough Board appoints interim business administrator, accepts two resignations and approves policy updates

ROCKAWAY, N.J. — The Rockaway Borough Board of Education on Wednesday approved a slate of personnel and policy items, moving to appoint an interim business administrator, accept two staff resignations and adopt updated policy language.
Board President Edward Graf called the special meeting to order and read the Open Public Meeting Act notice before the board recessed into executive session for personnel and negotiations. The public portion proceeded later in the evening.
The board approved an agreement to appoint Dr. Giovanni Cusmano as Interim School Business Administrator and Board Secretary, effective July 7, 2025, through Jan. 31, 2026, or sooner if approved by the Executive Morris County Superintendent of Schools. The item was presented on the superintendent’s recommendation; the board’s consolidated roll-call recorded a 4–0 approval with Ms. Jennifer Dahl absent. The motion to approve was moved by Brian Rivieccio and seconded by Faride Hernandez.
The board also accepted resignations from two staff members effective June 30, 2025: Alyssa Bellafonte, Math Interventionist, and Elizabeth Blake, World Language teacher. Those personnel actions were listed under the Personnel section and were approved as part of the motions the board recorded as passing.
On finance, the board approved the S-1701 Transfer Report and will submit it to the Executive County Superintendent for review of transfers that exceed 10 percent, as required by county procedures.
Under Policy, the board approved the second reading of changes to the School Counseling policy (Policy 2411), recorded in the agenda as a revised title and regulation where applicable.
The agenda opened a public comment period for agenda and non-agenda items; no members of the public spoke. The board announced its next regular meeting for July 22, 2025, with the public portion beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
The meeting minutes record that all motions on the agenda were approved by voice vote, and the board scheduled a second executive session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation, noting no board action would be taken after that session. The meeting adjourned at 8:21 p.m.
