Superintendent Dr. Sue DeNobile told the board on Sept. 24 that the district completed an online re-registration over the summer — its first in six years — to verify that students receiving district-funded education reside in Rochelle Park. "The purpose of doing a Re-Registration is that every student who receives an education with district funds must reside in Rochelle Park," she said.
DeNobile said the re-registration process resulted in six students leaving because residency could not be confirmed. The minutes also report "47 new students 34 are in Midland 22 students have left"; the phrasing in the minutes is inconsistent, and administrators provided those counts as reported at the meeting. The superintendent introduced new staff and faculty including specialists in speech/language, physical education, school psychology, special education and paraprofessionals, and described a new shared-teacher component intended to improve inclusion.
Business Administrator Dr. James Riley praised the custodial and maintenance crews for work over the summer. "They did an amazing job working with the construction crew and getting this building ready is no easy task," he said, and listed completed projects: replaced roofing on the gym area and three small roofs leading to the main building, finished facing and drainage to stop leaks, epoxy on 1st and 3rd floors and updated nurse’s suite flooring and furniture. The gym floor and locker-room flooring were scheduled for replacement the following week.
Director of Curriculum Cara Hurd said ELA and math testing scores have been received and will be mailed to parents; science scores were pending. Hurd also described ongoing professional development with Gravity Goldberg featuring co-teaching strategies that will run through the school year.
The board also heard from Building & Grounds Supervisor Rex Leka that summer maintenance tasks — painting, repairs, floor work and filter replacements — were completed and that a B&G committee meeting was planned for Oct. 8.
