Principal Dr. Courtney Carmichael and Superintendent Dr. Sue DeNobile briefed the board on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) activity and the district’s School Self-Assessment for the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act.
Carmichael reported 20 cases were reported in 2023–24; 15 were opened for investigation and 5 were determined not to meet HIB criteria. She said the district still applies consequences such as counseling when an incident is not ruled HIB and emphasized continued attention to verbal acts and cyber-bullying awareness. The district’s school self-assessment score was 75 out of 78, an increase from the prior year, and the full assessment report is available on the district website.
The board approved the HIB reports and the resolution authorizing submission of the School Self-Assessment to the New Jersey Department of Education (resolution A1). Dr. Carmichael said the School Safety and Climate Committee and partnerships with SRO, guidance and the PTO will continue programs and sensitivity training.
The board recorded votes to carry the routine HIB resolutions and the A1 submission during the meeting; no additional disciplinary cases were disclosed during public comment.
