Rochelle Park approves District Improvement Plan submission after praise for evacuation drill

Superintendent Dr. Sue DeNobile told the Rochelle Park Board of Education on Nov. 19 that a recent evacuation drill — conducted with the township OEM, fire and police departments — was "the most efficient, well coordinated" of the three drills she has observed, and she thanked named officers for their assistance.
The board approved submission of the District Improvement Plan (DIP) for Instruction and Program to the New Jersey Department of Education after the district's NJQSAC (New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum) District Performance Review showed Instruction and Program scoring 74%, below the 80% minimum. The board also approved the School Safety and Security Plan Statement of Assurance under N.J.A.C. 6A:16-5.1.
Dr. DeNobile said the district conducted an after-action debrief following the evacuation and that the collaboration between school administrators and municipal first responders improved the drill's effectiveness. The DIP will address indicators 1–7 for Instruction and Program as required by state review, and the board authorized submission of that plan to the state.
The actions were approved by roll call (motions recorded as carried). The district stated it will continue to review safety procedures and professional development to support instructional improvements as part of the DIP process.
