MIDDLEVILLE — The Middleville Village Council voted Aug. 12 to approve up to $163,000 from the parks budget to move forward with a redesign and replacement of aging playground equipment at Calvin Hill Park.
Carl Paua of Pentura, a Brighton, Mich., playground manufacturer, presented options for the southwest corner of the park, proposing separate play areas for ages 2–5 and 5–12, a range of swings (including a tire and a cot swing), and several surfacing choices. "We're proposing a 2-to-5 and a 5-to-12 area," Paua said, describing equipment, coatings and shade options.
The council discussed maintenance, liability and surfacing choices. Paua said certified wood-fiber surfacing can last several years before replenishment and that poured-in-place rubber or turf are more expensive alternatives. He also noted equipment is manufactured with coated aluminum posts and durable hand-hold materials.
