Gonzales council approves several ordinances, rejects a zoning change; rezoning and appointments cleared

The Gonzales City Council completed a series of roll-call votes Monday approving several ordinance amendments and local appointments and rejecting at least one zoning change.
The council voted to adopt ordinance No. 4298 (amending chapter 6, section 8-193), No. 4299 (section 8-194) and No. 4300 (section 8-182), and also approved ordinance No. 4301 (section 8-184) following roll-call votes; the council later recorded that ordinance No. 4302 (amending chapter 22, zoning section 22-7B) failed on final vote. The clerk called each roll and announced results during the meeting.
Council approved the rezoning request from Robert Lawson for approximately 0.85 acres at 511 West Toby Avenue, following a zoning commission recommendation for approval dated May 4, 2026.
The council also approved the mayor’s appointments to local boards. Willie Robinson was approved for the Industrial Development Board after a short discussion about potential conflicts stemming from his work in real estate; Marvin Glover was approved for the Recreation Committee. Motions for both appointments were moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
The council introduced the fiscal year 2026–2027 general fund budget, the Pace Center Economic Development District budget and an ordinance to amend the FY2025–26 operating budget for later consideration.
