The University City Council voted unanimously Dec. 8 to adopt Bill 9577, an ordinance amending section 130.580 of the municipal code to increase monthly benefits for nonuniformed employee retirees and their eligible beneficiaries, excluding children, by 1 percent.
Council Member Stephen McMahon moved to approve the ordinance, and Council Member Teeman seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll; Council Members McMahon, Briner, Fuller, Smotherson, Clay, Teeman and Mayor Crowe each voted “I.” Mayor Crowe declared the bill passed.
The ordinance was presented for third reading during the meeting; no substantive discussion or amendments were recorded on the council floor during the third-reading exchange. Council did not attach a separate effective date in the oral record during the meeting.
The adoption came amid a broadly procedural agenda that included appointments, citizen comments and a consent agenda. Council moved into a closed session later in the evening under Missouri statute 610.021 to discuss legal actions and personnel matters.
