Resident says Bedminster dog park is 'a mess,' urges township action

At the May 5 meeting Michael Rhoden (Spencer Lane) told the Bedminster Township Committee the town dog park is in poor condition and urged officials to act.
"The park is a mess. It really is," Rhoden said, detailing problems including three planted trees of which only one is thriving, deteriorating snow fencing, two‑foot‑high weeds and holes around the play area. He said grit applied previously has become compacted into a hard, clay‑like surface that makes walking difficult and suggested the park lacks durable surfacing (hardscape) to withstand heavy use.
Rhoden also raised gate‑maintenance issues and described mud and slippery areas that had previously been improved with grit but have since degraded. He said prior discussions yielded only limited responses and questioned whether an outside party previously mentioned by the mayor would undertake promised park improvements.
Mayor Jacobs and committee members acknowledged the concern and referred maintenance and any contractor commitments to follow‑up outside the public comment period. Rhoden asked whether the township has a concrete plan or whether earlier promises were purely informal; officials said the topic will be considered by staff and in future meetings.
