Millington Township board approves budget amendment and retention bonuses, continues zoning moratorium pending attorney review

At its Dec. 16 meeting, the Millington Township Board approved a budget amendment, modest retention bonuses for staff, several administrative appointments, and voted to continue a temporary moratorium on enforcing two zoning ordinance sections while the township attorney and Planning Commission are consulted.

The board approved a motion to pay bills totaling $78,338.25 covering General ($19,212.24), Fire ($15,189.91), Police ($17,213.29), Refuse ($26,639.63) and IFT Tax Collection ($83.18). The minutes list total reported fund balances as of Oct. 31, 2024, including $413,408.73 in the General fund and $153,413.07 in Fire funds, plus $39,109.96 in market savings.

On personnel-related items the board adopted retention bonuses: Administrative Assistant $500, Fire Chief $250, Sextons $200 each, and Cleaning $75. The board also approved a budget amendment (details attached to the minutes) and formally accepted the federal poverty guidelines for 2025 as the standard for Board of Review exemptions.

Concluding its business, the board voted to continue a moratorium on enforcing sections 14.11 and 14.15 of the township zoning ordinance until the township attorney can be consulted and the Planning Commission meets to consider any ordinance amendments. The Zoning Administrator will consult the attorney about how to proceed on specific fence and shed violations and whether to pursue further enforcement steps.

Other formal actions at the meeting included appointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Board of Review and standard board-assignment confirmations. The meeting adjourned at 9:07 p.m.
