They listed community activities the SROs supported this year, including trunk‑or‑treat, Ruby Bridges Day, block parties, Protect & Serve lunches and the CPAC resource fair.
SROs also reported hosting an advanced SRO training locally and noted planned travel to a national conference in late June/early July. The department announced youth academy registration for students entering grades 7–9 and said the program fills quickly.
Committee members highlighted data from the high school's Naviance platform showing increased student interest in public safety careers over the past three years and credited SRO visibility and the youth academy for that trend.
Separately, committee members discussed a student request to consider a half‑day on June 16 because of a potential World Cup game in town (6 p.m.). Officials raised concerns about bus routing and commuter/train traffic—trains may begin arriving roughly three hours before kickoff and Route 1 turn‑lane closures may occur several hours before the match—stating any calendar change would require a formal school committee vote. Administrators said they would place the topic on a future agenda for action and asked staff to study bus scheduling and traffic‑management implications before any vote.
