Manager Gregg Guetschow presented the proposed fiscal year 2026-27 budget draft and the village’s Capital Improvement Plan during a Feb. 2 budget workshop, highlighting changes in fund balances and major planned projects.
Council reviewed each section of the proposed budget and department heads spoke to their requests. Council members requested adding $10,000 to the budget for an upgrade to the council chambers sound system and $20,000 for a police department drone. Guetschow noted the council might consider establishing a fund-balance policy (expressed as a percentage of fund appropriations) and that the village may need to explore new funding sources in coming years.
The workshop was a review and discussion; the minutes record direction to add the two line items to the draft budget but do not record formal votes or specific funding sources to cover the additions. The council completed the workshop and later adjourned the meeting at 8:31 p.m.
