The Montrose City Council voted to publish a request for proposals to address structural repairs at 107 W. State Street after reviewing engineering and architectural reports and a court-ordered judgment.
Officials reported that last October a court-ordered judgment required the property owner to verify structural soundness and complete necessary repairs. The owner met an initial requirement by obtaining a report from Lopez Engineering and renderings from Creekwood Architecture, but no building permits or repairs have been completed since March. The city’s attorney filed the judgment with the Register of Deeds last month, and the judgment permits the city to take corrective action and place associated costs as a lien on the property.
Council member Andrea Martin moved to publish an RFP prepared by Creekwood Architecture to solicit contractors to perform the required work; the motion passed on a 3–1 roll-call vote (Councilmember Todd Pangle voted No). Council discussion noted that the building’s lack of a roof and its enclosure create an issue for a neighboring occupied building.
The council approved publication of the RFP so the city can solicit bids and, if necessary, proceed with repairs and lien placement under the court judgment.
