Council approves festivals, community partnership and a Recreation Committee appointment

The council voted to approve a Cinco de Mayo permit for Metilo Mexican Grill (Adrian Mark Martinez OBO) for May 5, 2026, with activities that include a bouncy house, live music and vendor promotions; applicant representative Melissa Carrillo described planned safety measures and hours. The council also approved Conway Development’s requests for an Independence celebration on June 25, 2026, and a Christmas vendor market on Dec. 12, 2026; the Conway representative said events are free and include fireworks, live music and family activities.
Council approved a community partnership to provide Ascension Flight Soccer Club with up to 12 meeting uses per year, with the club agreeing that city council chambers should suffice for most events. "This room would suffice for the majority of them with our current attendance," the club's representative said. The council approved using City Hall for the meetings to avoid higher civic-center fees.
The council also appointed Mr. Brad Stouchman to the Recreation Committee; Stouchman addressed the council briefly and pledged to support recreation department efforts.
All routine permits, the partnership and the appointment passed on roll-call votes. The council delegated follow-up tasks (confirming vendor lists, security and scheduling) to relevant departments.
