Staff reported on options to join regional business networks and the committee discussed local alternatives, from a small business coalition to participation in nearby chambers.
Catherine (staff) said the Alliance option under consideration would be a small, introductory membership that could allow up to three representatives to attend events and place Lighthouse Point on the Alliance's business directory. "It would provide networking opportunities and a way to get our name out there," she said.
Some committee members questioned whether the Alliance's focus on larger-site recruitment would suit a small city whose commercial base comprises mostly small or "mom-and-pop" businesses. Committee members suggested exploring scaled membership, membership coalitions with neighboring small cities, or relying on nearer, more locally focused chambers and coalitions.
The committee asked staff to gather more information on membership tiers and costs and to report back at the next meeting.
