Sheriff reports search‑and‑rescue reimbursements; commission reappoints Solid Waste board member

Sheriff Ken Blackburn reported to the Big Horn County Commission on Oct. 21 that the county has received search‑and‑rescue reimbursement for activity from June through September. Blackburn said final expenditures from the Gardner search are being processed and that reimbursement will be submitted to the State Search and Rescue Council in May 2026, with hope that costs will be reimbursed at or near 100%.
Blackburn also said he received notice just before the federal shutdown that the COPS grant for a Greybull resource officer is likely approved and that formal discussion can proceed once official notice is received.
Under old and new business, the commission approved the Oct. 7, 2025 minutes, moved to reappoint Scott Mattis to the Big Horn County Solid Waste Board, and noted that no applications were received for the Byron Solid Waste District seat; a Fair Board application was tabled for a future meeting.
County Clerk Lori Smallwood certified the minutes and noted the minutes and supporting documents are available on the county website.
