Bales said she has discussed the idea with potential partners and educational providers and believes colocated classroom and office lease space could reduce travel barriers for residents seeking training and create local job opportunities. She described the proposal as a business plan and requested the Commission’s support and help sharing resources with the community, but she did not ask for direct county funding.
Commissioners did not take formal action on the proposal at the meeting but expressed appreciation for the initiative and implied staff or community contacts may be used to help explore opportunities.
Bales said additional economic opportunities and jobs could be created with the center if partners and programs are secured; she asked for support and community outreach rather than a budget appropriation at this time.
