Negaunee Public Schools board approves budget amendment, equipment purchases and personnel actions

The Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 23 approved a 2025-2026 General Fund budget amendment and a package of routine purchases, personnel items and policy changes.
Board Member Fae Collins moved and Greg Toutant supported the budget amendment; a roll-call vote recorded 6 ayes and 0 nays, and the resolution passed. The board earlier approved payment of bills totaling $410,015.26 on a motion by Martin Saari supported by Greg Toutant.
Other actions approved unanimously included nomination of Greg Toutant as liaison to the Mini Miners Learning Center and nomination of Marty Saari as liaison for the Bus Garage; adoption of the 2026-2027 school calendar; approval of negotiated 27L educator compensation distributions (amended to include Superintendent Andy Skewis); purchase of a 2027 72-passenger bus from Zaremba for $157,554.00; and purchase of Advanced Biology textbooks for Negaunee High School from Pearson for $11,549.34.
The board also adopted the NPS Custodial Standards and Priorities, approved a four-week leave request for Pam Jacobson under the Family and Medical Leave Act and accepted notice of resignation from Dale Rogers, Custodial/Maintenance Supervisor. At the meeting's close the board entered a closed executive session to discuss the superintendent's annual evaluation and mid-year feedback and returned to open session before adjourning.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Dave Paananen and was attended by six board members; Todd Saunders was absent.
