Negaunee — At its Aug. 25 meeting, the Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education approved several administrative and operational items, including policy revisions, vendor selection, and personnel actions.
The board approved a second reading of a package of school board policy updates (policy numbers listed in the minutes) by motion of Fae Collins, seconded by Amy Clickner; the motion carried 7-0. The updates cover multiple policy sections as listed in the meeting minutes.
On facilities and procurement, the board voted to continue using Marquette County as the district’s plan-and-review building inspection enforcement agency, and it awarded a three-year snow-removal contract to Moyle Trucking & Excavating after discussion that cited Moyle’s reliability and past performance. Both motions passed unanimously.
The board also set school meal prices for 2025–26 as a contingency in case the district no longer provides free meals: student lunch $4.25 and student breakfast $3.00; adult lunch $5.50 and adult breakfast $3.50. Board members emphasized that the final decision on whether meals will be free depends on the state budget.
Personnel actions at the meeting included accepting several resignations and approving recommended hires: the board approved a full-time music-teacher hire (Rose Schmidt Riley), multiple instructional aides and support staff appointments across schools, requests for credit on the salary schedule for listed support staff per contract language, and Schedule B coaching appointments for the upcoming season. Most motions were moved and supported by members listed in the minutes and carried 7-0.
The approvals are intended to ensure staffing and operations are in place for the start of the school year; administrators said new hires are settling in and that professional development emphasized emergency procedures and readiness for students on day one.
