Select Board pauses Traffic Safety Advisory Committee and hires KP Law to investigate operations

The Lynnfield Select Board on Jan. 28 voted to pause the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee and retain KP Law to investigate the committee's operation after a string of resignations left the committee without a quorum.
Town Administrator Robert Dolan told the Board he has resigned from the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee. Chair Philip Crawford said that, combined with the resignation of three of the four citizen representatives, there is no longer a quorum and that the Board recognized "there is obviously a problem with the committee" and should pause it while pursuing an independent review. The Board voted unanimously to pause the committee and engage KP Law to perform the investigation, and separately voted to accept Dolan's resignation.
Resident Robert Gillon asked whether the report would be made public; Chair Crawford replied that the report will be public and said he was not sure whether there would be an opportunity for question-and-answer when the report is released.
What this means: The committee will not meet while the investigation is underway. The independent review by KP Law is intended to identify operational issues and recommend next steps for reconstituting the committee or altering its procedures.
Next steps: KP Law will conduct the review; the Board indicated the report will be public when available. No schedule for release or a public Q&A was provided at the Jan. 28 meeting.
