Saddle Brook board advances policy updates on nonresident tuition and spectator conduct

At the recommendation of the superintendent, the board moved several policy updates in a combined motion. Members noted these include mandated changes to reflect the State memorandum of agreement with law enforcement, a revision to eligibility rules for resident and nonresident students that removes the previous tuition exception for students who move out in their senior year, and a new spectator code of conduct policy for interscholastic events (P9163).

A board member explained the change to residency policy: the amendment removes the prior provision allowing a student who moves out of district during 12th grade to remain tuition-free for graduation; the board said families have been notified. The spectator code was described as a mandated, formalized standard of conduct for athletic and extracurricular events.

Board members voted to move the listed policy items together. Committee members said the policy committee reviewed first readings at a recent meeting and that the updates were largely mandated or brought to conform with state-agency guidance. The board did not adopt all items as final ordinances that night; some were first readings and will return for subsequent action as required by board policy.
