The Saddle Brook Board of Education voted to approve contracts for referendum projects that include new door access controls, upgraded door intercom/interconnect systems integrated with nearby cameras, and a guest-management system for district buildings. The board said the work will be funded under a school violence prevention (COPS) grant, which was described during the meeting as totaling $500,000.
Board discussion during the budget and finance item explained that the intercom systems will replace the existing buzzer systems, integrate with cameras already positioned near doors, and allow recorded entries. The guest-management system will standardize visitor check-in across schools and can print visitor badges.
Board members said the projects will be handled through the Bergen County cooperative purchasing program to expedite procurement and to consolidate work across multiple sites. During roll call on the consent/budget items, most members voted in favor; several members recorded abstentions on specific checks and line items listed on the agenda.
The board indicated it plans further technology and security upgrades beyond these projects as grant and budget capacity allow. The business administrator said the fiscal year 2025–26 budget process is underway and the audit presentation will be available at the February meeting.
