Board approves multiple consent agenda, policy and personnel items; drone policy revised to allow sports-approved flights

The Saddle Brook Board of Education approved a series of routine administrative and personnel actions during its public meeting. By roll call the board passed consent-agenda items (B24 series), education/curriculum items (E2 series), budget and finance items (BF/F series), policy updates and personnel appointments.
Among the policy changes, the board approved a revision to the unmanned aircraft system (drone) policy to permit drone use over athletic fields for approved sporting events and activities under district sports-approval procedures. The policy package also included minor housekeeping changes such as updating the high-school petty-cash account definition.
On personnel the board recorded the retirement of occupational therapist Laura Stern, effective March 1, and approved multiple appointments and leaves that were presented by the superintendent, including hires for classroom and support positions and placements for Saddle Brook residents completing clinical practice hours.
Board members conducted roll-call votes for each motion. The motions passed; several members stated abstentions on specific items or check numbers during the roll calls and one treasurer's report item was noted as amended by e-mail. The board later voted to recess into a closed session to discuss personnel under N.J.S.A. 10:4-12.
The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2025 at 7 p.m.
