The Saddle Brook School District Board of Education met to review curriculum revisions, student services contracts and personnel actions before recessing into a closed session.
The board heard a multi-part education report that highlighted field-trip requests, curriculum revisions and a dual-enrollment arrangement with Bergen Community College. Officials said the high-school band is scheduled to play in the Pulaski Parade in New York City and that several other class and club trips are planned this fall. The district described a dual-enrollment articulation agreement under which district teachers approved by Bergen Community College can teach college courses on campus and students may pay a reduced fee to earn college credit; the district cautioned that transferability of those credits to other colleges “is never a 100% guarantee,” a point staff said is shared with parents.
Board members were also briefed on curriculum work completed over the summer: the K–6 art curriculum was revised, a new elective presented last year by Laura Ironman remains in the plan, public speaking continues as a popular course, and high-school Latin II–IV was reorganized with Mr. Klein and Mrs. D'Bonis collaborating on the course changes.
On procurement and student services, the board reviewed an item expanding the district's contract with Bergen NewBridge Medical Center. The contract, which the district used last year for drug testing and school-clearance services, will include psychological evaluations and behavioral assessments to support students who are referred for such services.
Financial and administrative housekeeping items included a notice that lease-financing lines for technology and camera systems will be amended to increase certain budget lines; an update that a sound issue was resolved; and an announcement that an organization donated $1,500 in gift cards to the district for use at parent-partnership nights. The board received a facilities report for October and heard that a tentative memorandum of agreement for custodial and maintenance staff will be routed to the committee for signing and brought back to the October agenda for ratification.
Personnel matters on the agenda included several resignations and multiple appointments: part-time bus driver, custodial staff, lunch aides, a school nurse for Franklin School and a special-education teacher for the middle/high school. The board also reviewed stipend assignments for club advisors and mentor-pay guidance tied to New Jersey Department of Education certification rules.
Before recessing, the Chair read a resolution citing the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-12b) and said the board would meet in closed session for approximately 30 minutes; no formal votes on policy or contracts were recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
The board recessed into closed session; the public meeting was scheduled to reconvene when appropriate.
