The Salem County Special Services and Vocational Technical School District boards approved personnel actions, program partnerships and calendar changes at their Dec. 18 meeting.
Personnel actions approved by the boards include contract updates to reflect a minimum-wage increase effective Jan. 1, 2025 (student maintenance and garden-worker rates set at $15.49), the retroactive assistant coach stipend of $3,520 for Bridgit Cerrone for the 2023–24 season, an increase to the athletics scorekeeper pay rate to $40 per game, and the appointment of Michelle Drummond and Bruce Connell as substitute athletics scorekeepers. The Special Services agenda also approved multiple staff transfers effective Jan. 2, 2025 (Justin Moore to full-time floating nurse, Mariah Moore to Cumberland nurse, Christine Longo to full-time floating nurse, Caitlynn Siniscalchi to 100% one-to-one aide) and accepted the resignation of Mary Ecret effective Jan. 10, 2025. All personnel items were approved by roll call with five affirmative votes.
On programs and partnerships, the board approved participation in the National Fitness Campaign in collaboration with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, accepting eligible funding of up to $40,000 to establish and install an outdoor fitness program space with curricular resources. The board also approved a Memorandum of Agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education for administration of the GED tests through Dec. 31, 2027 and a dual-credit agreement with Salem Community College allowing students to earn college credit while attending SCVTS.
The Cumberland Campus calendar was revised after a Dec. 9 water-main break; the board added a make-up day during spring break and set a half-day for Jan. 27. The board set Extended School Year (ESY) dates for July 7–Aug. 14, 2025 (students 8:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m.; staff 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.). The AFJROTC 24th Annual Military Ball was approved for Jan. 31, 2025, with event costs charged to the AFJROTC Student Activity Account.
What’s next: Personnel transfers take effect Jan. 2, 2025, wage updates begin Jan. 1, 2025, and ESY and program implementations will follow the calendar and agreements approved at the meeting.
