District presenters reviewed a range of facilities and capital projects underway or planned across Saddle Brook schools.
The board heard that Coolage School is being renovated and the central office is slated to move into space there; Washington School is adding four new classrooms on its second floor. At the middle/high school, work includes a widened center walkway with a planned crosswalk and crossing guard; the town will add a crosswalk and the district plans to install solar-powered pedestrian signs at the front circle.
The presenter said exterior circulation will be improved with a new path directly from the front doors to a side parking lot to reduce long walks to Mayhill Street. Other building projects noted included flooring and carpet replacements, additional bottle-filler water stations, new staff bathrooms on some floors, fence replacements with privacy slats and the next phase of playground equipment at Washington School.
On the athletic field, the presenter said work on the turf field and lights is still awaiting approval and therefore has not yet started. The presenter invited short walkthrough visits for board members in the coming weeks so members could see projects nearing completion before the start of school.
Next steps: the presenter said the district will await approvals for the turf field, continue installations and return to the board with updates; no formal vote on capital funding was recorded in the transcript.
