The Saddle Brook School District presented a corrective action plan at its regular board meeting after a state testing investigation at the middle/high school, the board was told.
A presenter summarized the measures adopted: staff must understand that "anyone can fill out a testing irregularity and security breach form," administration and the school testing coordinator must be promptly alerted about irregularities, and post-test certification forms must include correct information. The presenter said those steps were implemented immediately after the NJ testing investigation and before the next testing window.
The presentation included the district's QAC monitoring result: the district scored 79% in instruction and program, short of the 80% threshold. Because of that score, the district drafted a District Improvement Plan that includes three proposed goals that the board is scheduled to approve: boosting attendance and engagement through a tiered intervention system for chronic absenteeism; elevating academic achievement through school data teams and targeted instruction; and optimizing safety and security protocols across buildings.
The presenter emphasized family communication in the attendance goal, saying schools will "strongly communicate with our families and our students on the importance of attending school each and every day." For academic improvement, school data teams will meet monthly to analyze data and plan targeted instruction for teachers.
On safety, the presenter said the district's threat assessment team will meet with the Office of Homeland Security to review each school's security plan and a reunification plan moving forward.
Next steps: the board was told the corrective action items are already implemented for the next testing cycle and the board will consider adoption of the District Improvement Plan, the professional development plan that aligns with the district goals, and related policy updates at its upcoming meeting.
