At its March 25 meeting the Board of Education approved a series of personnel actions and program approvals covering hires, resignations and student activities.
Personnel: The superintendent recommended, and the board approved, multiple hires across campuses including Judy Harris as a GED instructor funded by WIOA Title II grant (effective March 31, 2025) and other paraprofessionals, therapists and teachers with prorated salaries listed in the agenda. The board accepted resignations from Rachael Lester‑Battiata (effective May 13, 2025), Dayna Donelson (effective March 5, 2025), Carrie Bermudez (effective March 27, 2025), Uriah King (effective March 21, 2025) and Robert Williamson (effective March 24, 2025). The superintendent also recommended approval of FMLA/NJFLA leaves for specified employees and recommended termination of employee 1185 for job abandonment; the board approved the personnel package (vote recorded: five yes, two absent).
Programs and student activities: The board approved a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of the Air Force to operate an Air Force Junior ROTC program beginning July 1, 2025 at the Career and Technical High School. The Business Administrator and superintendent recommended applying for the Opportunity Partnership Grant (OPG) for up to $200,000 to fund occupational training for displaced or dislocated workers; the board approved seeking the grant (if awarded the program would run June 2025–June 2026). The board approved Adult Literacy partner agreements under the FY26 WIOA Title II grant with named partners including Cumberland County Correctional Facility, Salem County Correctional Facility, Millville Public Library, Vineland Public Library, Revive South Jersey, RCSJ‑Cumberland, and Salem Community College.
The board approved student events and extracurricular items including the SCVTS Junior/Senior Prom on May 8, 2025 (ticket price $85 estimated; venue cost $7,500), the Ian Bradley Memorial 5K fundraiser on May 4, 2025, renaming the Ally Club to Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) to participate with Garden State Equality in a Day of Change program, and other curriculum‑in‑action field trips and fundraisers listed in the agenda.
A question about ROTC staffing was raised by Board member James Davis; Mr. Jason Helder responded that he was confident an instructor would be in place. The board recorded approvals for the personnel and program items with five affirmative votes and two members absent.
