Rutherford council adopts event‑space zoning amendment, advances handicap‑parking and fire‑uniform ordinances

The Rutherford mayor and council voted Oct. 14 to adopt an amendment to the borough zoning code adding a definition and regulations for “event space,” and advanced two additional ordinances on first reading.

A council member read an ordinance amending Chapter 131 (zoning) to include event space in definitions and general regulations. The council opened the matter to the public for comment on the zoning amendment; no members of the public spoke. The council then passed the ordinance on second reading by roll call.

Separately, the council moved and approved two ordinances on first reading. One ordinance amends Chapter 126 (Vehicles and Traffic) to establish a handicap parking space on Santiago Avenue; a revised ordinance on that subject was noted earlier in the meeting. The other ordinance amends Chapter 33 Section 24 concerning the fire department uniform allowance. In each case the council voted to pass the ordinances on first reading and to advertise according to law.

All measures were advanced after motions and roll‑call votes recorded in the meeting minutes. The zoning amendment becomes effective following required advertising and any statutory waiting periods; the handicap‑parking change and the fire‑uniform ordinance will proceed through the statutory notice and second‑reading process before final adoption.
