Council members voted July 14 to instruct the borough attorney to draft amendments to the borough’s recently adopted body-art (tattoo) ordinance. The board of health recommended updating the license fee structure and inspection regime to align the ordinance with existing public-health code and similar local businesses.
Council member Kley explained the proposed changes: raise the initial license fee to $500 (from a lower figure adopted earlier), set renewals at $500 annually, establish a late-fee schedule ($100 up to one month late, $200 for two months late, $400 for three months or more), and explicitly allow the board of health to conduct inspections as frequently as it deems necessary to protect public health. Kley said the amendments are meant to align the body-art licensing process with fees and enforcement practices already in place for comparable establishments.
Council voted to have the borough attorney begin drafting the amendment language. The action was described as a drafting direction rather than an adoption; the ordinance amendments will return to council for formal introduction, public notice and a vote when the attorney’s draft is complete.
