Newaygo Principal Shopping District approves façade and sign permit for Byrne Chiropractic & Wellness Center

The Principal Shopping District (PSD) board in Newaygo approved façade changes and a sign permit for Byrne Chiropractic & Wellness Center, 135 State Road, at its July 10 regular meeting at City Hall.

Board member Fedell moved to approve the permit and façade changes; the motion was seconded by Slominski and passed unanimously (AIF/MC). The approval was recorded alongside routine procedural actions to excuse an absent member and to approve the meeting agenda and June 12 minutes.

Board member Byrne described the planned alterations, saying the existing sign will remain but its wording will be changed and that the sign is internally lit, with the board noting that making the lighting functional could be addressed in the future. Byrne said brick will remain where it exists on the façade and that new siding colors, new fascia and new doors are planned. Project colors and a description were included in the meeting packet. The board did not provide additional technical specifications or exact color names in the record.

City Manager Jon Schneider told the board that the FY 2023/2024 year-end budget is "right where it should be," though no dollar figures were provided during the meeting. Schneider also said the city plans to order a few replacement benches in the coming year.

Schneider briefed the board on operational changes downtown, reporting on the elimination of certain loading zones and plans to expand the city's social-district project into the south parking lot. Board members and Schneider also discussed the city's existing banners and the possibility of procuring new banners in the future.

The meeting, held at City Hall, was called to order by Chair Cooper at 7:31 AM and adjourned at 7:51 AM after a motion by Parsley, seconded by Slominski.
