School nurse role at New Lothrop at risk after HRA grant cut, nurse urges permanent funding

She described duties that include ensuring medication safety, verifying vaccination compliance, removing expired products and creating procedures for student health care.
District representative Wayne Wright later confirmed he was notified April 7 that HRA grant funding would be cut effective April 24 and said the cut affects all of Shiawassee County. Krupp warned that, without a funded nurse, many responsibilities will fall to office staff who have limited medical training; she asked to meet with the board and help explore budget adjustments to preserve the role.
Board members did not take a funding vote at the meeting. The loss of the grant will likely require the district to consider reallocation of local funds or other options to maintain nursing services; no funding plan or timeline was presented. The board moved into closed session later in the meeting to consider pending litigation and negotiations.
