New Lothrop board approves $885,939 in bills, personnel changes, truck purchase and Schools of Choice participation

The New Lothrop Board of Education voted unanimously March 17 to approve $885,938.94 in bills and several routine business items at its regular meeting.
Adam Green, board member, presented bills totaling $839,099.56 from the general fund and $46,839.38 from school service, for a combined total of $885,938.94; the board approved payment by a 7–0 vote. The board then accepted the monthly financial report showing an ending balance of $2,444,232.44 after receipts and expenditures were tallied.
The board approved three personnel resignations: bus driver Mike Matsumiya, effective Feb. 25, 2025; full-time custodian Steve Filary, effective March 15, 2025; and elementary social studies teacher Keith Villano, effective May 31, 2025. Each personnel motion carried 7–0.
On facilities and equipment, the board authorized purchase of a truck and plow from Berger Chevrolet, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $62,407.00 using general fund dollars under the MiDeal program. The motion, made by Tim Birchmeier and seconded by Ashley Krupp, passed 7–0.
The board also approved an overnight FFA trip to D-Bar A Scout Ranch in Lapeer, Michigan, scheduled for April 28–29, 2025, and accepted two donations toward a football stadium sound system: $4,000 from New Lothrop Football Club and $6,000 from Gross Construction, Inc. Both motions passed unanimously.
Finally, the board approved participation in the Schools of Choice program under Section 105 and 105c of the Revised School Code for the 2025–2026 school year, a motion that carried 7–0. No public objections or roll-call dissent were recorded in the minutes.
The board took these actions during a meeting that also included student recognitions and regular district updates. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for April 21, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.
