New Lothrop board approves budget amendment, personnel moves and facility bids

The New Lothrop Board of Education on Feb. 10 approved a series of fiscal and personnel actions, including a 2024–25 budget amendment and several facilities and activity expenditures.
The board unanimously approved the February 2025 budget revision after a PowerPoint presentation by Wayne Wright on the district’s proposed Budget Amendment #1. Adam Green moved to approve the budget revision, and Joseph Toma supported the motion; the motion carried 6–0. Adam Green read the financial summary showing a beginning balance of $1,845,703.09, receipts of $1,235,784.77, expenditures of $1,200,698.76 and an ending balance of $1,880,789.10.
The board voted 6–0 on multiple personnel actions: accepting the retirement of food service worker Deborah Lacy, effective Feb. 28, 2025; accepting the resignation of part-time custodian Susan Bishop, effective June 6, 2025; hiring Steve Gauger as a certified one-on-one aide, effective Jan. 7, 2025, with reimbursement by SRESD/State Aide (Special Education); and hiring Steven Filary as a full-time custodian, effective Jan. 13, 2025. Motions were moved and seconded by board members as recorded and carried unanimously.
On facilities and service contracts, the board approved a bid from Advanced Lighting & Sound to install the football stadium sound system for an amount not to exceed $16,257, to be paid from donations. The board also approved a wet-pipe suppression repair from Winninger Fire Protection, LLC, not to exceed $9,010, to be paid from capital projects. Both motions were approved 6–0.
The board approved the Online, Dual Enrollment and SRESD CTE rosters for the second semester, the 2025–2026 school year calendar as presented, and Spring Schedule C appointments for the 2024–2025 school year, each by unanimous vote. The board also approved an overnight FFA State Convention trip to Michigan State University in Lansing, March 5–7, 2025.
A motion by Adam Green, supported by Tim Birchmeier, sent the board into closed session under Section 8(1)(e) of the Open Meetings Act to discuss pending litigation (Case #AAA01-24-0006-1692) and under Section 13(1)(g) of the Freedom of Information Act to consider attorney-client privileged correspondence; the motion carried 6–0. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m. The next workshop is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
