Parent asks New Lothrop Board to ease athletics food-on-bus policy; memorial bench acknowledged

At the Nov. 18 meeting of the New Lothrop Board of Education, visitor Jessica Unangst urged the board to reconsider a policy change that restricts food on buses during away athletic events, saying parents previously organized meals and coordinated with host schools to give student-athletes a place to eat before long trips.
"I would love to see us ease into allowing food for Varsity sports," Unangst said, adding that volleyball parents had raised similar concerns. She described organizing meals for away football events and working with host schools to provide space for the team to eat before boarding buses for long trips. The board did not take action on the request during the meeting; no motion or vote on athletics policy was recorded.
Separately during public comment, a man identified as Mr. Bullard thanked the board for allowing a memorial bench for his son, Greg Bullard, to be placed by the football field. The meeting minutes say Greg "was handicapped and watched every sport he could for over 30 years" and that the bench is placed in a location the board deemed appropriate.
The board did not respond with a recorded decision on the athletics food issue; further consideration would have to appear on a future agenda if the board chooses to act. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
