Salem City Council adopts consent agenda, introduces two ordinances for March hearing

SALEM, N.J. — The Salem City Common Council met Feb. 23 and adopted a consent agenda covering multiple administrative and fiscal items, then introduced two ordinances for public hearing on March 9, 2026.
The council approved routine business including payment of bills and minutes from the Feb. 9 caucus and executive session (motions by Councilmember Gage, seconded by Cline; roll-call votes recorded as unanimous among members present). The consent agenda (Resolutions 2026-78 through 2026-88) was adopted by roll call and covered a range of matters: a refund for duplicate tax quarter payments to CoreLogic; issuance of third-quarter 2026 estimated tax bills; authorization for an electronic tax sale cited as being in accordance with N.J.S.A. 54:5-19.1; mailing and advertisement of 2026 tax sale notices; cancellation of municipal liens on city-owned parcels; approval to hire Abimael Medina as a laborer in the Public Works Department; an executive-session authorization; approval to apply to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for the FY26 LEAP Implementation Grant; authorization for appraisal services; and a reallocation of formerly earmarked transitional-aid funds originally listed for a PFNA filtration system. Council moved and seconded the consent agenda (Gage; second Cline) and all members present voted in favor on roll call.
Council also approved a raffle license for the Washington Fire Company for May 24, 2026 (motion Gage, second Cline; voice vote).
On ordinances, the council introduced ORD. 26-04, an amendment to Chapter 225, Section 37 to authorize a handicapped parking space and signs at 334 New Market Street, and ORD. 26-05, an amendment to Chapter 130 addressing the city code on affordable-housing obligations. Both measures were introduced for first reading (motions by Gage, seconded by Cline) and the public hearing for both ordinances is scheduled for the March 9, 2026 council caucus meeting at 5:30 p.m.
The minutes list an appointment by the mayor of Yeunge Groce to the Housing Authority on the meeting agenda; the minutes record the appointment but do not include a separate motion or recorded vote on the appointment.
The council noted no mayoral comments or old business. New business included a brief commendation of the Road Department’s snow-removal work.
