Salem council approves road contract, grant applications and environmental investigation at former Tri-County Oil site

At its Aug. 19 meeting the Salem City Common Council authorized multiple spending and procurement steps related to roads, equipment and environmental cleanup.
Road contract award: The council approved Resolution 2024-218 awarding the FY 2024 Local Road Program Phase Two resurfacing contract to South State, Inc., for the Base Bid amount of $757,025.29. The engineer's recommendation and bid tabulation were filed with the clerk; the chief financial officer certified funds in the specified account for the contract.
USDA police-car grant: The council approved Resolution 2024-215 authorizing the submission of a completed application to the USDA Rural Development Communities Facilities Program for two police cars; the preliminary eligibility amount notified to the city was $44,800. The resolution records a required city match of $36,684.00 and cites the CFO certifications for line-item funding.
Tri-County Oil supplemental investigation: The council approved a resolution (Res. 2024-220) to engage Excel Environmental to perform a supplemental remedial investigation and Brownfields-related work at the former Tri-County Oil site.
