Board hears proposal to add $887,000 for field-turf sensors after $177,000 contract credit

Budget and Finance briefed the Saddle Brook Board on contract adjustments and a proposed addition to a field-turf project that together could materially affect referendum funds.
Mr. aamand told the board the contract for work on three rooms at Washington School carried a $177,000 decrease change order that will return funds to the district's referendum account. Separately, the administration proposed adding $887,000 for the field-turf project to cover cooled play top-dressing and a monitoring system.
Explaining the monitoring technology, Mr. aamand said the sensors include a unit cost and monitoring software that "will tell you how the field's being utilized and when it needs maintenance" and can alert staff when usage concentrates wear on specific areas, enabling targeted grooming to extend the turf's life.
The board was also reminded of a 10-year maintenance report that the district must file annually by Nov. 15. The contract credit, the proposed field-turf additions and supporting reports were placed on Wednesday's agenda for formal consideration and potential approval.
