Newaygo council approves consent agenda, traffic orders, event permits and trustee appointments

At its July 8 meeting the Newaygo City Council approved routine business and event requests as part of its consent and board business items.
The consent agenda included approval of the June 24, 2024 regular meeting minutes and accounts payable listings (one line item recorded as $207,784.13 and additional listings of $24,394.41, $119,217.78, $127.52, $250.00 and $3,812.00). The council approved Traffic Order #207 with a note that a printing error had listed the number incorrectly and that the correct traffic order was #209; the council also approved Traffic Order #208. The council approved recommended members to serve as trustees for the MML Workers’ Compensation Fund Board.
The council approved a request by Wayne Kauffman to hold a Community Free BBQ in Brooks Park on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Mayor Fedell noted the event has run previously without issues. Separately, the council allowed Military Rights to be held in Brooks Park for approximately 10–15 minutes on July 11, 2024 during a Celebration of Life ceremony at the museum.
During reserved time, Adam Mercer introduced himself as a candidate for Newaygo County Sheriff. In public comment, AYSO board members reported damage to soccer fields by a vehicle and thanked the city for its support.
