Niles council approves multiple purchases, a lot-sale addendum and event permits
Summary
Council authorized a land-sale addendum, several department purchases (including vehicle upfits and used dump trucks), a repair contract for a downtown network building, a security training subscription, event and license approvals and an ownership transfer for a local business.
At its Sept. 9, 2024 meeting, the Niles City Council approved a package of administrative actions including a lot purchase agreement addendum, equipment purchases, contracts and several permits and licenses.
Council approved Addendum No. 1 to the Lot Purchase Agreement with Green Development Ventures, LLC and authorized the Mayor to sign. The council also authorized Tele-Rad, Inc. to purchase emergency equipment and upfit one Chevrolet Tahoe for the police department at a cost of $11,928.78, and approved purchasing two used dump trucks and accessories from RangerBid for $86,014.88 for the Department of Public Works.
The Utilities Department was authorized to hire Ziolkowski Construction of South Bend to repair the downtown network building for $33,122.00, to be charged to the Electric Division. Council also accepted a quote from SHI for a one-year KnowBe4 security awareness training subscription at $3,371.40 to be charged to the City and Utility Department computer equipment and supply accounts.
On event and license matters, council approved a resolution supporting a charitable gaming license for the Howard-Ellis Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (Resolution #2024-09/2218) and approved the Niles-Buchanan YMCA request to conduct the annual Thanksgiving Day Run, with a correction to the route from Sycamore Street to Cedar Street; that run approval passed 7–1 with Councilmember Michael Thompson recorded as the lone nay. Council also approved the transfer of ownership of Oasis Wellness Center of Niles, LLC to Level Up Ventures, LLC.

The minutes list each motion, mover and seconder, and show roll-call tallies, and do not attach contract documents or bid packets to the minutes themselves. Other routine items approved on the consent agenda included the Aug. 26, 2024 minutes and the list of bills dated Sept. 4, 2024. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
