The Kinder Town Council adopted Ordinance No. 884 on Sept. 9, setting the Town Clerk's annual compensation at $56,709 effective Oct. 1, 2024. Town Attorney Michael Holmes opened a public hearing on the ordinance; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed.
Councilwoman Angie Van Norman moved to adopt the ordinance and Councilwoman Susanne Sonnier seconded. The roll call vote recorded Councilwoman LaToya Tunwar as nay and Councilwomen Maria DeWees, Angie Van Norman, Susanne Sonnier and Councilman Jerry Nevils Jr. as yea, producing a 4–1 outcome in favor of adoption.
Town Clerk Traci Fontenot later thanked the mayor and council for approving the pay increase and noted that income statements with monthly budget-to-actual comparisons are included in meeting packets.
Ordinance No. 884 was presented and decided during the town-attorney report and ordinance segments of the meeting. The ordinance text and budgetary impact statements were not read into the record during the meeting beyond the stated salary figure; the council did not solicit public comment on the ordinance.
