Niles council approves routine contracts, purchases and CDBG home-repair awards

The Niles City Council approved a range of routine contracts, purchases and program awards at its Nov. 25 meeting.
Among the items the council approved were five-year airport ground-lease renewals for several tenants through Dec. 31, 2029; a contract with Niles Public Schools to use the Apple Festival Grounds for the 2025 Fourth of July fireworks; and several IT purchases and renewals, including a $26,682.03 VPN quote and a $73,200 three-year computer security services renewal from SHI International Corp. The council also authorized wireless services from Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless under Michigan MiDeal.
Utilities-related actions included authorization to buy two data routers for the Water Division ($3,976), purchase three aeration basin drops for the Waste Water Treatment Plant ($9,983) and a third-year rental of a hydro excavation unit under MiDeal pricing ($164,400). The council approved emergency repairs and upgrades to access control and fire/security systems at city facilities and the Walter Filtration Plant (recorded emergency purchases of $6,200 and $11,250 respectively).
Parks and community items approved included SiteOne Landscaping material for Tyler Fields ($18,534.24), an extension of the mowing contract with MAAC Property Services ($28,200), and the Apple Festival Grounds contract for Fourth of July fireworks. The council also awarded CDBG Home Repair Program contracts to Airlux ($10,691) and Future Construction ($12,500) for an HVAC replacement and a roof replacement respectively; both were noted as paid by area foundations.
Most items were approved on unanimous roll calls recorded in the minutes; the minutes present the motion text, mover and seconder and list roll-call yeas for each item. The minutes do not include extensive debate on these items, which were presented as part of the city administrator's report and consent/administrative agenda.
