Dan reviewed the history: the city issued an RFP in spring 2023, received several expressions of interest and ultimately negotiated with Charter (Spectrum). The city signed a letter of intent in December 2023 and has been negotiating terms since then; staff reported that only one prospective buyer remained engaged and that both sides are finalizing several items.
Mr. Carlson and other staff members said the teams have held regular meetings with attorneys and project coordinators to attempt a smooth transition for customers and employees. "We feel...we're getting closer and closer to what we think is a highly vetted potential agreement that will be brought to council hopefully soon," Mr. Carlson said. Council members encouraged staff to continue public outreach and indicated the item may return to the council agenda in upcoming meetings (the goal cited was to bring a proposal to the February 19 meeting if negotiations are ready).
No vote was taken; council invited public comment at the next meeting and emphasized transparency in further discussions.
