The design-phase cost was described in the packet as up to $33,000, including a retainer and on‑site community engagement; council members noted that the $2,000 design retainer will provide a basis for ballpark construction costs.
Councilmembers emphasized the need to seek comparative bids and to keep cost transparency, with one member noting the town population and expressing concern about a large price tag for a small community. Staff said Play By Design is willing to work with donated labor, local contractors and community volunteers to lower costs, and that the company’s previous projects have used volunteer builds to reduce overall expense.
The council voted to accept the parks committee’s recommendation to authorize the design phase with Play By Design and to return for additional cost comparisons before committing funds to full construction.
