Seaside Park outlines boardwalk reconstruction starting Sept. 8; resident asks if conduit for lighting is included

Seaside Park officials reviewed plans for the boardwalk reconstruction between Fifth Avenue and Island Avenues during a Sept. 4, 2025 work session, saying the contractor will mobilize Sept. 8 and start at Island Avenue, working south.

The presenter said public works crews began mobilizing and removing benches and disconnected water lines at the boardwalk fountains as part of the early work. The contractor will close the boardwalk at Brighton and at Sixth Avenue as work progresses, and the project “has to be done by February the 28th,” the presenter said.

Why it matters: The council discussed how the project will affect scheduled events and pedestrian access. Council members asked about outreach to race organizers; staff said the Valor run was notified and that portions of its course will move to the street.

During public comment, resident Alan Moley asked specifically about wiring access for future lighting. “Are we putting any plastic tubing for wiring for lights on our boardwalk?” Moley asked, noting an earlier reference to a $12 million package for the project. A staff member responded: “I don't believe there's any conduit being… we're not putting electrical conduit. No. None.”

Council took no formal action on the construction specifications at the session. With no further work-session business, Council member Connor moved to adjourn the work session and begin the regular meeting; Council member Ammobile seconded. Six councilmembers voted yes and the motion passed.

The council proceeded into its regular meeting after the vote.
